A study in the Lancet Oncology gathered information from dozens of epidemiological studies to estimate that over 200,000 cases of endometrial cancer have been prevented in the past 10 years as a result of oral contraceptive use.
A commentary in the journal offers a remarkable look at weighing the benefits and harms of OCs. We talk with a co-author of that commentary, Dr. Nicolas Wentzensen of the National Cancer Institute.

I disagree with Dr. Nicolas Wentzensen and I have sent him my review of my research in the field on oral contraception since 1960. Animal studies found that progesterone and progestins and estrogens caused reproductive cancers including breast, ovary and uterus in the 1930s. OCs and HRT have caused an epidemic of breast cancer with rises and falls matching changes in hormone use. The WHI studies were terminated prematurely because of causing more harm than benefit. As oral contraceptives also contain the same or similar progestins and estrogens as HRT , they also cause more overall harm than benefit.. The expert epidemiologists agree that HRT also causes both endometrial and ovarian cancers. The epidemiological studies claiming prevention with OCs are flawed by classifying users for one reason as never users for another reason. Also OC use has resulted in millions of women having hysterectomies before the menopause which has also contributed to these mistaken claims of preventing endometrial cancer.
